In this period of increased seismic activity, it is of great importance to protect, monitor, and take necessary precautions for the country's largest investments.
The Atatürk Dam Remote Surveillance Project was initiated to ensure the safety of the dam and to intervene quickly in case of any risk. This project uses advanced sensors and remote monitoring systems to monitor various parameters of the dam. The first phase covers the seismic monitoring process carried out with devices such as Seismologger SmartCam to ensure the seismic safety of the dam. In this way, ground movements and changes in fault lines can be monitored instantly and early warning can be made in case of any danger. The second phase is related to the regular monitoring of the water level and flow rate of the dam. It provides critical data in terms of water levels, how much water is usable and flood risk. The third phase includes sensors and visual monitoring systems to control the structural integrity of the dam. Any damage, deformation or change in the walls, gates or foundation structure of the dam can be quickly detected and maintenance and repair operations can be carried out in a timely manner. The fourth phase covers the measurement of parameters such as water temperature, pH level and salinity (EC) to monitor the water quality of the dam. Negative changes in water quality are of great importance especially for irrigation and drinking water. Finally, the regular collection and reporting of all this data provides dam managers with the information they need to make the right decisions and increases the overall efficiency of the system. The project makes the dam's management more effective and ensures the security of this strategic infrastructure, which is critical to Turkey's energy and irrigation needs.
